AIMS To develop and deliver a programme for young people aged 13 - 16 who had a gift or a talent but were at risk of underachieving as part of a portfolio of provision for this target group.
OUTLINE The programme ran over a ni ne month period and included a wide range of activities for 81 young people which sought to develop their self esteem, help to build their generic skills and raise their awareness about the potential opportunities which their gift or talent could offer. The students contributed to the development of the programme at every stage. It ended with a showcase for parents/carers and referring agents at which every young person contributed and a website was launched. The five events were overwhelmingly enjoyed by the students, who benefited from being on a university campus. Although expensive to deliver, lessons learned from this experience have been used to inform future Connexions Provision.
