METHODOLOGY AND CONTENTS OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROJECT
The topic that we selected for the project is ?Young People in Europe: The World of Labour and Culture?. We really think that the common interest in our secondary schools is to enlarge the information about the opportunities that our society offers young people, specially in the one refering to the labour world and to their daily life. The proposals that we make for our project have emerged from this idea. We hope the project to be useful not only as an exchange of experiences between teachers and students. We expect an important increasement of the number of young people who wil be able to build their future, due to our interest in showing them the possibilities they have of being useful.
We want all our work to have an interdisciplinary character. That´s the reason of the variety of areas that are participating in al schools (Geography, History, Economy, Science, Technology, Literature. Administration, Foreign Languages, Arts, Computers...) We also pretend that all the activities we have programmed for the development of the project as well as the budgets to be assumed in the Educational Project of each school. Our schools managements have also helped us for this aim with their support and colaboration.
On the other hand, in class, each teacher will work with the group of students selected to work in the prject in the differents subjets. Students should be between 16 and 18 years old. We have thought of this age because the content of the project. In Secondary Schools is where students and parents take the most important decisions for their professional future. At the same time the students start to become adults. They assume responsibilities, make decisions, participate independently in all type of social activities. For all these reasons we think this is the best age range to be interested in our work and to make them the main characters of it.
Refering to methodology each teacher will take decisions about tha appropiate activities to be done with the students. The required conditions are:
A) The result of the work should adapt to the contents we mention below.
B) The materials should adapt to any of the supports we will use to exchange our experiences with the rest of the schools: Internet and a didactic guide. At the same time these supports can be as well used by the rest of the staff of each school.
In order for the ideas we have discussed in our first meetings to make sense, we have decided to divide the work by topic in three different phases; each of them should correspond to a whole school year. In each case the first year should be the most important one in order to establish the basis for the following ones. The plan for the development of the work is the following:
First year: we make an inventory. How things are.
1. Daily life of an European youngster: family, classmates, school life, the city they live in, traditions, cultural life, gastronomy, free time.
2. The first steps in the labour world: What am I and what am I able to do? Where do I come from and where am I going? What is expected of young people? To get to know all the enterprises of the area. Discrimination and difficulties to have access to labour world.Main qualities to find a job. Enterprises structures; their national and international projection.
Second year: Why is it difficult to find a job? Search of the reasons.
Third year: Analysis of the new perspective about employment. Possibilties for the future. .
