Short description:
The project focuses on the development of an educational programme for both immigrant and refugee pupils alongside with gipsy and native Finnish children of the same age, representing different religions, cultures, languages and different educational abilities. The objectives of the project are: a) to give an introduction to different languages and cultures for the target groups concerned; b) to prepare for the target group insights into Finnish industry and design and this combined with environmental research.
It is hoped that this programme will lessen existing prejudices against certain minority groups, that it will strengthen self-confidence of those groups, that it will develop friendships and that it will help accepting differences between people especially when it comes to ethnic minorities like migrants and gipsies.
The activities to be set up within the project are: 1) pre-research work of the participating groups; 2) personal contacts with participants in advance; 3) workshops and regular classes in the host schools; 4) study-visits and educational visits and 5) panels and talks. An evaluation report will be published at the end of the project to disseminate the experience acquired.
