U4U is a joint cooperation between COSIS Fohnsdorf (College for Occupations in the Service Industries Sector) and Freizeitarena Judenburg (the regional tourist board). Pupils and teachers of Fohnsdorf Business College are working on a tourist guide describing freetime activities, culinary highlights and suitable accommodation for teenage visitors to the region.
The main activities are: collecting information, selecting and describing the hot spots of the region, designing the layout (in cooperation with the printery CreARTeam), selling the idea of the brochure to sponsors, releasing the brochure.
Freizeitarena Judenburg sees its role as a mediator between our school and business operations based in the region. Mr Freddy Wascher, the managing director of the tourist board, and his assistant Ms. Sonja Lechner help us establish sustainable links with business partners based in the region and are actively involved in marketing the guide. The guide will be available from all the local tourist information centres.
Several classes are involved in the project to ensure that the information featured is relevant and complete. The pupils give useful tips to young visitors and recommend highlights of the region. Exchange students from Montecatini tourist college in Italy will visit some of the spots described in the guide and give their feedback. The Italians‘ feedback will be taken into account and the guide will be modified accordingly.
The brochure will be completed by the end of May. It will be fan-shaped. Pupils of COSIS will try to find sponsors to cover the costs for the print. The pupils have been thoroughly prepared for their negotiations with the sponsors.
If the money required can be raised, the printed brochures (otherwise photocopies) will be handed over to the operations featured in the guide. To mark this event a release party will be held at our school. The local media will of course also be invited to give full coverage to the project.
This project is in line with the new school‘s new main area of training project management. This year we are teaching the first preparatory classes. Students who attend this branch will carry out projects with external business partners when they are in their final year. The first round will be in 2007/08.
The project U4U is monitored by an external coach from Steirische Volkswirtschaftliche Gesellschaft. The coach is Mr. Alfred Schaider.
