Short description:
THE ESTIA PROJECT

ESTIA started as a 3-year pilot project within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci programme ending in April 1999. The project was carried out in co-operation between Finland, France, Sweden and UK and aimed to facilitate mobility within Europe by:

increasing the availability of current and suitable information about education, work and labour market
increasing the opportunities for guidance counsellors and other experts to build their own networks
increasing the competence of guidance counsellors and other experts in the use of IT for guidance
increasing the intercultural skills for guidance counsellors and other experts.
The first part of the ESTIA project concerned setting up an Internet web site - The European ESTIA Home Page - about education, work and the labour market in Europe, involving the creation of a common gateway leading to national home pages for each country. These national home pages follow a common structure with regard to layout and content.

The second part of ESTIA concerned communication technologies and testing the use of Internet and video conferencing. The third part of the project was concerned with the competence development of guidance counsellors.

In 1997 a successful application was made for a dissemination project under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme and was only concerned the web site - The European ESTIA Home Page. During the two years from December 1997 to December 1999 an additional 9 countries have been setting up national web sites (Austria, Belgium (fr), Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Ireland, Luxembourg and Norway).

In 1999 another application has been approved for a dissemination project under the Leonardo da Vinci programme. This application will lead to the creation of an additional 10 ESTIA national homepages. The participating countries are Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovac Republic, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland).

In addition, two more countries participate as issilent partnersl, in setting up their national home pages (The Netherlands and Portugal).

The purpose of the ESTIA web site is to provide user-friendly information about education, professions and the labour market in different European countries. All countries are required to use a similar structure and layout in their separate sections of the ESTIA web site, i.e. the national pages. These guidelines describe the basic structure and layout of the national pages of the ESTIA web site, agreed upon by the participating partners in the pilot project and the first multiplier project..
