Connections is the Government's new support service for all young people aged 13 to 19 in England (excludes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). The service aims to provide integrated advice, guidance and access to personal development for this age group and to help them make a smooth transition to adulthood and working life. Connection joins up the work of six government departments and their agencies, together with private and voluntary groups, youth and career services, Connections co-ordinates all these agencies to support young people during their teenage years. It offers practical help in choosing appropriate courses and careers including access to broader personal development through activities like, sport, performing arts and voluntary service. Help and advice is also available on social health problems like drugs, sex and homelessness. Connections is able to offer differentiated and integrated support. All teenagers can have access to a personal adviser. For some this may be only for career advice whilst other may want more in-depth support. Personal advisers work in a variety of settings, schools, colleges, one stop shops, community centres and on an out-reach basis.. | |
