Summary

1. Starting point

The EU enlargement, the introduction of the Euro as a common currency, worldwide integration, economic globalisation and the fast technological progress in every perspective are the major themes of the coming years.
This means that the Austrian, the Hungarian and the Slovene economy have to face serious changes and also a lot of new challenges. Knowledge and qualification play a vital role concerning the internationalisation of markets. At the same time they are the basis of a site and future factor of the 21st century. A high standard of newest qualification is an essential requirement for improvement and keeping the international competitiveness of Slovenia and Austria.
Informing and including the educational system in the integration progress is very important for this process. The future of the existing as well as developing common market depends on open-minded cooperating young people. Their ideas and potentials will be the pillars of the European Union in the new century. Specialised knowledge, foreign languages, current media, multicultural competency and a well developed personality are therefore key requirements for an integration process.
In the schools years 1998/99 and 1999/2000 students appreciated and were interested in the information www.export.co.at offered. The events as well as the interactive information packet were attended and used throughout Austria.
Nevertheless the attitude towards an EU enlargement is a rather negative one.

2. Aims

2.1. Presentation
· Strengthening the image for an economic internationalisation as an issue of education concerning an EU enlargement
· Promoting awareness instead of being afraid of an enlargement?
· Promote a positive attitude towards an EU enlargement
· Presenting the educational and qualification requirements of an economic network in the new EU
· Establishing understanding relations between young people, schools and economy
· Raise an awareness for a European dimension
· Promoting international values in young people
· The EURO and the challenge when introducing a new currency
· Intensifying the partnerships between Austria and other countries
· Enabling and extending an exchange between students
· Reducing language barriers between Slovenia, Hungary and Austria

2.2. Internet

The EU enlargement is a great chance and challenge of the entire educational sector. The aim of www.export.co.at/nEU is to assist in raising an awareness among Austrian, Hungarian and Slovene students. By emphasising on the advantages of such a exchange anxiety is relieved, distrust is eliminated and prejudices are enfeebled. For example, virtual communication between young people in various regions can be an implementing tool. Well directed communication results in understanding.

A strong emphasis is put on a dialogue, without anxiety and prejudices, between students and business executives, students and students, teachers and business executives, teachers and teachers across the existing borders of the European Union. Such a dialogue is a pre-condition of a common (labour) market. All interfaces between education and economy have to be taken into consideration.
